WooCommerce in ChatGPT and Claude: orders, stock and sales from your store
A WooCommerce integration for ChatGPT and Claude: connect with a REST API key, ask about stuck orders, low stock and last month's sales, approve every change first.
Contents
To connect WooCommerce to ChatGPT or Claude, create a REST API key in WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced → REST API and paste its consumer key and consumer secret on our page, not in the chat. Then ask in plain words: which paid orders are still sitting in Processing, which products run out before your next delivery, what last month brought in after refunds. Changing a status, a stock level or a price is one more message, and nothing changes until you say yes.
How to connect WooCommerce to ChatGPT or Claude
Monday, nine o’clock, and a small online tea shop has a weekend of orders to sort out. Which ones are paid but not packed? Is the matcha set going to last until Thursday’s delivery? With WooCommerce connected, ChatGPT or Claude answers that from the store’s own orders and products.
When we checked on 31 October 2026, neither ChatGPT’s plugin directory nor Claude’s connector directory had a connector made by WooCommerce itself. The same day, 31 October 2026, Claude’s directory did list a WordPress.com connector from Automattic, but its published tool list covered posts, pages, plugins and site settings, with no tools for orders or sales reports. WooCommerce’s own MCP feature is a developer preview that runs a Node.js program on your computer. APIUniCon is the way to connect without any of that.
- Add APIUniCon to ChatGPT or Claude. You do it once, and the setup guide has the buttons for both.
- Write in the chat: “Connect my WooCommerce store, it’s at https://yourshop.com”. The AI connects to your store’s own address and reads the WooCommerce REST API docs on its own.
- Create a key. WooCommerce’s guide to REST API keys goes like this:
- check Settings → Permalinks in WordPress: any option except “Plain” works;
- go to WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced → REST API and click “Add key”;
- write a description, such as “APIUniCon”, and pick the user the key belongs to;
- choose the permissions: Read for answers only, Read/Write if you want changes too;
- click “Generate API Key” and copy the consumer key and the consumer secret. WooCommerce shows the secret only once.
- Open the link the AI sends you. Check that the address on the page is your store’s, then paste the consumer key and the consumer secret into their two fields. Keep them out of the chat, and we store them encrypted.
- Wait for the test. The AI makes a test request and tells you what it can see.
One key covers the whole store: orders, products, customers, coupons and the built-in reports. WooCommerce counts as one service in your plan, and Pricing shows how many each plan has.
What to ask about your orders and stock
For a Monday check of a WooCommerce shop, start with these:
- Which orders have been in Processing for more than 2 days?
- Which orders are On hold, and since when?
- Which products will run out within 7 days at the pace of the last 30 days?
- Which products are out of stock or on backorder right now?
- What were last month’s gross and net sales, and how much went on refunds and discounts?
- What were the 10 best-selling products last month, in units?
- How many orders failed this week, and which payment method did they use?
- Which customers ordered three or more times this year?
- Which orders used the coupon WELCOME10 this month?
Cases from a Monday at a small tea shop
The shop and the figures below are made up. Connected to your store, the AI answers with your own orders and products.
Paid, but still not packed
First question of the week: “Which orders have been in Processing for more than 2 days?” In WooCommerce, Processing means the payment has arrived and the stock is reduced, and the order is waiting to be fulfilled. The AI looks for orders with that status that came in before Saturday morning.
9 orders have been in Processing for more than 2 days. 4 of them include the matcha starter set, which is out of stock, so those can’t go out yet. 3 are ready to pack and ship. 2 are local pickups that nobody has collected; both customers left a phone number in the order notes.
Next you might ask: “Write a private note on the four matcha orders: waiting for Thursday’s delivery.”
Will it last until Thursday?
The supplier delivers on Thursday. The question: “Which products run out before Thursday at the pace of the last 30 days?” For products with stock management turned on, WooCommerce keeps a stock quantity. The AI counts the units each product sold in the last 30 days of orders, divides by 30 and compares the result with what’s left.
Two products won’t make it. The sencha 100 g pouch has 6 left and sells about 3 a day, so it runs out on Wednesday. The glass teapot has 2 left at about 1 a day. The oolong sampler looks low at 9, but it sells about 1 every 2 days, so it lasts well past Thursday.
Products with variations, like a tea sold in 50 g and 100 g pouches, keep stock per variation, and the AI counts each one separately.
Last month in four numbers
Before the monthly call with the accountant: “What were last month’s gross and net sales, refunds and discounts?” WooCommerce’s sales report gives these for a period, and its top sellers report lists products by units sold.
In October the shop took £6,840 gross from 212 orders, £6,105 net. 5 orders were refunded and coupons took £318 off. The best seller was the sencha 100 g pouch with 164 units, then the matcha starter set with 71.
If the net figure looks low, ask what made up the gap. The same report splits out tax and shipping.
What the AI can do in WooCommerce
The AI can change the store too, if the key has Read/Write permission. Before each change it shows what it’s about to do and waits for your “yes”. Nothing changes until then.
- “Mark orders 1041 to 1044 as completed, they shipped this morning.” You see the four orders and the new status first. Once you confirm, WooCommerce emails each customer that the order is complete, as it does for any completed order.
- “Set the stock of the matcha starter set to 24, the delivery’s in.” The product comes up with its current and new quantity.
- “Put the oolong sampler on sale at £12 from Friday to Sunday.” Nothing is saved before you’ve seen the regular price, the sale price and both dates.
- “Add a private note to order 1038: the customer called, she needs it by Thursday.” The note is marked private, so no email goes out.
- “Create a coupon TEA10 for 10% off that expires on Sunday.” Check the code, the discount and the end date, then approve.
If something goes wrong
- The AI reports “Consumer key is missing”. WooCommerce’s docs call this a server issue: the server isn’t reading the authorization header properly. Your host’s support can fix that. Then ask the AI to try again.
- The AI can read but can’t change anything. The key was created with Read permission. Create a Read/Write key and tell the AI “Update the WooCommerce key”.
- Some orders or products are missing from the answers. The key works with the rights of the WordPress user it belongs to. Pick a user who can see all orders and products, such as a Shop manager or an administrator.
Questions and answers
Doesn't WooCommerce have its own MCP server?
It has one, in developer preview. You add a separate plugin, and for a store on a server you also run a small Node.js program on your own computer. WooCommerce's guide covers Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. That's a setup for developers. With APIUniCon you create a key in your WooCommerce settings and paste it on our page.
Aren't there WooCommerce plugins in ChatGPT already?
On 31 October 2026 ChatGPT's plugin directory listed a few, made by other companies rather than by WooCommerce. APIUniCon is one connection for both ChatGPT and Claude, and the same account connects your other services too, from a CRM to a delivery service.
Which permission should the key have?
Read, if you only want answers. Read/Write, if you also want the AI to change orders, stock or prices after you confirm. The key also acts with the rights of the WordPress user you pick for it, so a Shop manager is usually enough.
I lost the consumer secret. Can I see it again?
No, WooCommerce shows it only once. Revoke the old key, create a new one and tell the AI “Update the WooCommerce key”. It sends you a fresh link to our page.
Will customers get an email when the AI changes an order?
WooCommerce sends its usual emails when an order's status changes, for example when an order is completed. The AI tells you which status it's about to set, so you know what the customer will get. A note to the customer is emailed too; a private note isn't.
Does it matter where my store is hosted?
It has to open over https from anywhere on the internet, because that's how APIUniCon reaches it. A store that only runs on your computer or inside an office network can't be reached.
