How to connect any service with an API to ChatGPT or Claude
Any service with an API can be connected to ChatGPT or Claude without a developer. The whole path, step by step, shown on Less Annoying CRM.
Contents
You can connect almost any service to ChatGPT or Claude if it has an API, an open way for one program to read data from another. Add APIUniCon to your AI, give it the link to the service's developer docs, create a key in the service's settings and paste it on our page. Then ask in plain words. We walk through the whole path on Less Annoying CRM: contacts, follow-ups and the sales pipeline.
Can your service be connected?
Many services have an API: an open way for one program to read data from another. If yours has one, ChatGPT or Claude can use APIUniCon to read your contacts, orders, tasks or stock from it, and change them when you ask.
Checking takes a couple of minutes:
- look for links called “API”, “Developers” or “Integrations” at the bottom of the service’s website;
- look for an “API”, “Integrations” or “Tokens” page in your account settings;
- if neither turns up anything, ask the service’s support: “Do you have an open API, and where do I get a key?”
You need two things: a link to the developer docs and a key. A key (some services call it a token) is a long string of letters and digits that tells the service a request comes from you.
Here is where each piece comes from:
| What you need | Where to get it | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| APIUniCon in ChatGPT or Claude | The setup guide, once for everything | Your AI’s settings |
| A link to the developer docs | The service’s website, under “API” or “Developers” | The chat, with your request |
| A key (token) | The service’s settings, usually an “API” page | Our key page, from the link in the chat, never the chat |
How to connect Less Annoying CRM to ChatGPT or Claude
We’ll use Less Annoying CRM, a CRM for small businesses: contacts, follow-up tasks and a sales pipeline. When we checked on 23 October 2026, it had no official connector in the ChatGPT or Claude catalogs, so it is the kind of service you connect yourself.
- Add APIUniCon to ChatGPT or Claude. You do this once, and the setup guide shows which buttons to press.
- Write in the chat: “Connect Less Annoying CRM, here are its developer docs: https://account.lessannoyingcrm.com/api_docs/v2”. The AI reads the docs and works out what data the CRM offers and which key it needs.
- Create a key in Less Annoying CRM. Its API docs send you to the Programmer API settings page. There you turn API access on if it’s off and create a new key. A key can be allowed to read, create, edit or delete information, so give it editing rights only if you want the AI to make changes. Copy the key straight away: LACRM stores keys encrypted and can’t show one to you again.
- Paste the key on our page. The AI sends you a link to it: open it, paste the key and save. Keep the key out of the chat; that way neither ChatGPT nor Claude ever sees it.
- Wait for the check. The AI makes a test request and tells you what you can ask now.
With any other service the steps are the same. Only the docs link and the place where the key lives change.
What to ask the AI about your contacts and pipeline
Ask the way you’d ask a colleague. A few questions to start with:
- Which contacts haven’t had a note or a call logged in the last 30 days?
- What follow-up tasks are overdue, and for which contacts?
- How many leads are at each stage of the pipeline right now?
- Which open leads have no follow-up task scheduled?
- Who did we add as new contacts this month?
- What client meetings are on my calendar this week?
- Which leads are marked as won?
- Before my call with Acme Ltd, summarise everything we have on them.
Cases from a working week
The numbers in these examples are made up. The AI answers from your own data, so you’ll see your own contacts, names and dates.
The follow-ups that slipped by Monday
First thing on Monday, the owner asks: “What follow-up tasks are overdue, and for which contacts?” The AI collects the tasks past their due date and groups them by contact.
Here’s an example answer:
7 follow-ups are overdue. 3 are calls to leads from last week’s trade show; the oldest is 5 days late. 2 are quotes promised to existing clients. 2 tasks have no contact attached. I’d start with the quotes, since those clients are waiting on you.
From there you can go on: “Show me the trade-show calls” or “Which of these leads are in the pipeline?”
Leads nobody is chasing
They are easy to miss, so ask: “Which open leads have no follow-up task scheduled?”
For example:
There are 14 open leads in your sales pipeline, and 5 of them have no next task. 3 of those are at “Proposal sent”, including Northwind, worth £8,000 in this example, with no note for 16 days.
You see where the pipeline stalls without exporting anything to a spreadsheet.
Everything on one client before a call
Five minutes before a call, ask: “Before my call with Acme Ltd, summarise everything we have on them.” The AI reads the company’s contacts, notes, tasks and leads.
Say the AI replies:
Acme Ltd has 3 contacts; the main one is Sarah Jones, operations manager. The last note is from 12 days ago: they asked for a quote for 20 seats. There is one open lead at “Negotiation” and no task after this call.
What the AI can do in Less Annoying CRM
The AI can make changes too. Before each one it shows exactly what it will do and waits for your “yes”. Nothing changes without it. The key needs the matching rights (create or edit) for these.
- “Add a follow-up call with Sarah Jones for Thursday.” You see the task, the contact and the date first, and the task is added once you say yes.
- “Log a note on Acme Ltd: they want the quote by Friday.” The AI shows the note as it will be saved and waits.
- “Move Northwind to Negotiation.” You get the lead with its current and new stage, and it stays put until you confirm.
- “Move the overdue trade-show calls to tomorrow.” First comes a list of the tasks with their new dates, and the dates change only after your go-ahead.
- “Add Tom Baker from this email signature as a new contact.” Check the fields it filled in; nothing is created before you agree.
If something goes wrong
- The AI can’t work out where the data is. Check that you gave it the developer docs, not the service’s home page.
- The key stops working. LACRM’s docs say an admin can turn API access off for the account, and that deactivates existing keys. Turn it back on, create a new key and tell the AI “Update the Less Annoying CRM key”. It sends you a fresh link to the key page.
- APIUniCon doesn’t show up in the chat. Go back to the setup guide: in Claude, click “+” → Connectors and switch APIUniCon on; in ChatGPT, type
@and pick APIUniCon from the list.
Questions and answers
Do I need a developer?
No. The AI reads the developer docs itself. You give it the link and a key from the service's settings, and you paste the key on our page. There is no code to write.
What if my service has no API?
Then it can't be connected this way, because the AI has nowhere to read the data from. Before you give up, look for “API”, “Developers” or “Integrations” on the service's website and for an “API” or “Tokens” page in its settings. If you find nothing, ask the service's support whether they offer an open API.
Can ChatGPT or Claude see my key?
No. You paste the key on our page, not in the chat. We store it encrypted, and the AI only gets the answers to your questions.
Does this work with both ChatGPT and Claude?
Yes. On our side the connection is the same; only the buttons in your AI's settings differ. The setup guide walks through both.
Can I connect more than one service?
Yes. Each one connects the same way, with its own link and key, and then you can ask about several at once. How many services each plan includes is on the Pricing page.
How much does it cost?
You can start free, no card required. What each plan includes is on the Pricing page.
