Reddit Ads in ChatGPT and Claude: which subreddits actually convert
Purchases per subreddit, sales after a click versus after a view, and the reason a new ad never ran: your Reddit Ads account, read by ChatGPT or Claude.
Contents
Nine subreddits, $3,200 a fortnight, and one question: which communities actually buy? Reddit reports spend, clicks and purchases per community, and ChatGPT or Claude can read that report for you once you approve access on Reddit's consent page.
How to connect Reddit Ads to ChatGPT or Claude
Say a small brand selling hand coffee grinders puts $3,200 a fortnight into Reddit prospecting, spread over nine subreddits, and runs a small retargeting campaign on the side. Reddit can break that spend down by community and put the purchases next to it, which is the one table the owner needs before raising the budget. As of 23 October 2026, an official Reddit Ads app was missing from both the ChatGPT and the Claude directory, so the connection below runs through APIUniCon.
- Everything below assumes APIUniCon is already in your ChatGPT or Claude. If it isn’t, the setup guide comes first.
- Type something like “Hook up our Reddit ad account” and paste the link to the Reddit Ads API reference, so the AI starts reading from the right pages.
- Sign in on Reddit. You won’t find a key to copy anywhere: Reddit’s authentication guide sends every app through a Reddit page where you approve access. The chat gives you a link that leads through our page to Reddit. Check the username Reddit shows. If it’s the account that runs your ads, select Allow.
- Back in the chat, the AI names the ad accounts it can now reach.
Your Reddit password never leaves Reddit. Reddit hands APIUniCon a token for the ad account, we keep it encrypted, and the chat sees answers, never the token.
What to ask about spend, CPA and ROAS
Good first questions for the account:
- Which subreddits did we spend the most in over the last 14 days, and what did each purchase cost there?
- Which communities brought clicks but no purchases this month?
- What are CPA and ROAS per campaign since 1 October?
- How many purchases came after a click, and how many after someone only saw the ad?
- Which ads are rejected or still waiting for review, and why?
- Which targeting keywords had a CPC above $1.50 and no conversions in the last 30 days?
- How has CTR changed week by week for each ad since the campaign started?
- At which hours does the prospecting campaign spend most, and when do purchases come in?
Cases where the budget goes
The grinder brand from the opening is our example, so every subreddit figure below is too.
Which subreddits buy
“Which subreddits did prospecting spend the most in over the last 14 days, and what did a purchase cost in each?” The AI asks Reddit for a report broken down by community, with spend, clicks and purchases after a click.
Over the last 14 days the prospecting campaign spent $3,200 in 9 subreddits and brought 64 purchases after a click, so $50 per purchase. r/espresso: $940 and 31 purchases, about $30 each. r/pourover: $610 and 17 purchases, about $36. r/Coffee: $1,050 and only 9 purchases, about $117 each. r/BuyItForLife: $380, 412 clicks, no purchases. The other five subreddits spent $220 together and brought 7.
After a click or after a view
Reddit counts a purchase in two ways: after someone clicked the ad, and after someone saw it and bought later without clicking. The question for the retargeting campaign: “Since 1 October, how many purchases came after a click and how many after a view?”
The retargeting campaign spent $900 and Reddit counts 46 purchases: 14 after a click and 32 after a view. With both kinds, a purchase cost about $20. With clicks alone it cost about $64, more than the $50 the prospecting campaign paid in the last 14 days.
The ad that never ran
“Why hasn’t the new carousel ad had a single impression?” Every Reddit ad has an effective status, and a rejected one also carries the reason.
The carousel “Grind finer, taste more” is rejected with the reason BROKEN_URL, so Reddit couldn’t load the page it points to. Its link ends in /products/hand-grinder-v2, while the other ads in the same ad group link to /products/hand-grinder. The image ad created the same day is still pending approval.
What the AI can do in Reddit Ads
Each edit below starts as a proposal: the field, its value today and the value you asked for. Say “go ahead” and the AI sends it to Reddit.
- “Exclude r/BuyItForLife from the prospecting ad group.” Reddit then keeps the ads out of auctions in that subreddit.
- “Lower the bid on the prospecting ad group from $1.20 to $0.95.” That’s a CPC bid; had the group bid per thousand impressions, Reddit would accept only $3.50 to $100.
- “Fix the carousel link to /products/hand-grinder.” Reddit notes that for image, carousel and video ads the click URL often has to match the post’s destination URL, so the AI shows you both before saving.
- “Pause the retargeting campaign until the new creatives are ready.”
- “Cap the retargeting campaign at $1,500 in total.” Reddit allows a lifetime spend cap on campaigns without budget optimization, or with it when the budget is set per day. The AI checks which case yours is before it offers the cap.
Questions and answers
Do I have to create a key or a developer app on Reddit?
No. Reddit's Ads API works through Reddit's own sign-in: a Reddit user approves an app on Reddit's page, and Reddit then issues that app a token. So you sign in on Reddit and allow access, and APIUniCon keeps the token, encrypted.
Reddit showed the wrong username on the consent screen. What now?
That means another Reddit account is signed in on your browser. Reddit's guide says to log out, log in with the account that manages your ads and open the link again. Then press Allow.
Why did yesterday's numbers change this morning?
Reddit says its metrics can take up to 6 hours to settle, and conversions that arrive late for an earlier day are added during the daily refresh. So a total you read yesterday evening can be slightly higher today.
How much history can the AI read?
Reddit keeps delivery data for 24 months. Reach and frequency figures start in June 2024.
Can the AI change an account where my Reddit user can only view?
No. Reddit refuses the change and the AI tells you. Reading works across every business and ad account your user belongs to.
Can I see purchases by subreddit and by country in one report?
Not from 8 December 2026. From that date Reddit refuses reports that combine the community breakdown with country, region or a few other splits. The AI asks for the two separately and puts the answers side by side.
